World Ocean Day | Hawai’i Coral Restoration

This World Ocean Day, ‘Alohilani Resort is honored to host guest speakers from the Hawai‘i Coral Restoration Nursery, a pioneering initiative led by the State of Hawai‘i Division of Aquatic Resources. Established to accelerate coral growth beyond natural rates, the nursery cultivates native Hawaiian corals in land-based facilities and outplants them onto degraded reefs, aiding in the recovery of these vital ecosystems. Their innovative techniques, such as micro-fragmentation and fusion, have significantly increased coral growth rates, offering hope for the restoration of reefs impacted by climate change and other stressors.
