Hiʻuwai Ocean Cleansing | Queen’s Jubilee

September 2 7:00AM - 7:30PM Alohilani Lobby

The Hiʻuwai Hawaiian Cleansing Ceremony is a traditional sunrise ritual centered on renewal, reflection, and connection.

Guided by Kumu James, guests will wade into the healing waters of Waikīkī to release what no longer serves them and welcome fresh beginnings—a meaningful way to begin a day honoring the Queen and her enduring connection to this special place.

Meet: 7:00 AM in the ʻAlohilani Resort lobby; depart for Queen’s Arbor at 7:10 AM
Participation: Open to hotel guests only
Dress: Shorts, skirts, and casual attire are encouraged. Participants will enter the water up to their knees. In respect for the cultural nature of the ceremony, bathing suits are discouraged; cover-ups or shirts are recommended.

Queen’s Jubilee

September 2 marks the birthday of Queen Liliʻuokalani, Hawaiʻi’s last reigning monarch. ʻAlohilani Resort stands on the historic grounds of Keʻalohilani, a place where the Queen once came to find rest, reflection, and renewal by the sea. In honor of her legacy and her special connection to this place, the resort will host a series of complimentary cultural, culinary, and wellness experiences throughout the day.

The Hiʻuwai Ocean Cleansing is one of several experiences taking place across the resort throughout the day, inviting guests to connect with Hawaiʻi’s rich cultural heritage and honor the legacy of Queen Liliʻuokalani through music, storytelling, tradition, and community.
