This World Ocean Day, ‘Alohilani Resort is honored to host guest speakers from the Hawai‘i Coral Restoration Nursery, a pioneering initiative led by the State of Hawai‘i Division of Aquatic Resources. Established to accelerate coral growth beyond natural rates, the nursery cultivates native Hawaiian corals in land-based facilities and outplants them onto degraded reefs, aiding in the recovery of these vital ecosystems. Their innovative techniques, such as micro-fragmentation and fusion, have significantly increased coral growth rates, offering hope for the restoration of reefs impacted by climate change and other stressors. “Finding True North”

Join us for the premiere of Finding True North, a powerful new documentary that follows the extraordinary journey of adaptive surfer Joshy Bogle, produced by renowned waterman and filmmaker Matty Schweitzer. The screening takes place Friday, May 16th at 7:00 PM on the Swell Pool Deck at ‘Alohilani Resort in Waikiki. This outdoor event is open to the public with first come, first serve seating. Parking is validated with food and beverage purchase at Swell.

After a life-threatening infection led to the amputation of all four limbs, Joshy Bogle found a new sense of freedom and purpose through adaptive surfing. Since catching his first wave in 2018, Joshy has become a globally recognized figure in the sport—most notably as the first quadruple amputee to surf standing on prosthetic legs. Representing Hawai‘i in the World Adaptive Surfing Championships and advocating for inclusivity in the ocean, Joshy’s story is a moving testament to human resilience and the healing power of the sea.

Capturing his story is Matty Schweitzer, founder of Island Eye Productions and a seasoned filmmaker known for his breathtaking surf and ocean cinematography. Raised on Maui, Matty has spent his life in and around the water, filming elite surfers and global ocean adventures. Most recently, he documented the devastating Lahaina wildfires, offering a raw and heartfelt perspective on his home community. With Finding True North, Matty brings his deep connection to the ocean and commitment to authentic storytelling to a film that uplifts and inspires.
